Choosing a Real Estate Agent · Straight answer from Kathleen

Can I sell my house without a real estate agent?

You can, and some people do it well. The honest question is whether you want to take on pricing, marketing, showings, negotiation, paperwork, and the legal details yourself, because that is what the commission buys.

  • Is for-sale-by-owner worth the saved commission?

For-sale-by-owner works best for sellers who know the market, have the time, and find a buyer quickly. It can save the commission, but the savings are erased by a single mispriced month or a poorly handled negotiation.

I have seen both outcomes. I have also seen FSBO sellers bring me in to finish a sale after the hard parts surprised them, and the professional help usually pays for itself in the price achieved.

Whatever you choose, understand the full job before you decide. If you would rather handle it all yourself, I can still help you price it and prep it so you start from a strong place.

On the North Shore

North Shore buyers' agents will still show FSBO homes, and a private sale can work well when the buyer already knows the house. The risk concentrates in the steps you cannot see coming.
