Choosing a Real Estate Agent · Straight answer from Kathleen

What happens if I'm unhappy with my listing agent?

First, talk to them, because most problems are fixable with clearer expectations. If that does not work, you can usually end the listing agreement or wait out its term, and there are ways to transfer to a new agent.

  • Can I switch agents mid-listing?

The listing agreement is the contract between you and your agent, and it has an end date. Some agreements include a clause that lets you terminate early, and even when they do not, an agent who is not serving you may agree to a mutual release rather than hold you hostage.

Before switching, have the honest conversation: what is missing, what you expected, and what a good working rhythm looks like. Plenty of seller-agent relationships are rescued by plain communication.

If the problems are real and unresolved, do not suffer in silence. Your home's sale is too important, and there is a better fit available.

Whatever the outcome, the listing stays professional: buyers, other agents, and the attorneys should never see a dispute. I handle transitions cleanly so your sale does not absorb the drama.
