Choosing a Real Estate Agent · Straight answer from Kathleen

What should my real estate agent be doing after my house is listed?

After your home is listed, your agent should be actively marketing, managing showings, gathering and acting on buyer feedback, and keeping you informed without you having to chase them.

  • How often should my agent communicate with me?

Expect a rhythm you both agree on, typically a touchpoint each week even when there is nothing dramatic to report, because silence creates anxiety and a good agent knows it. Between touchpoints, they should be responding to every inquiry and scheduling showings promptly.

They should also be studying the market: watching new competition, monitoring feedback from showings, and adjusting strategy early if the response is not what the evidence promised.

If your agent is quiet, that is a conversation worth having. You hired them to manage this process, and you should feel managed.

On the North Shore

In fast-moving North Shore seasons, a day's delay on an inquiry can cost a showing, so responsiveness is part of the local skill set, not a nicety.
